A Maths and Music graduate, Ruth’s career in Higher Education started in 2001 at University College Falmouth in Cornwall where for five and half years she worked as Faculty Administrator and then Personal Assistant to a couple of Directors. A move to Hampshire in the spring of 2007 meant a change of job and the opportunity to work less hours to fit in with family life and that summer she took a part-time job at the University of Portsmouth providing admin support for online examinations within Mathematics and Computing.

Then in March 2009 the opportunity came to move across to the School of Health Sciences & Social Work to take up the position of Administrator for the newly formed Portsmouth Team of the Research Design Service South Central. In April of the same year Ruth was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (Higher Education Administration and Management), following three years of distance learning study run by the Association of University Administrators (AUA).
