Public and patient involvement in research can enhance the quality of research and research outcomes, according to a new report published by INVOLVE.

INVOLVE is funded by NIHR to promote public and patient involvement in research.  The new report: Exploring Impact: public involvement in NHS, public health and social care research looks at the impact of public involvement through an in-depth review of published literature.

Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB)

RfPB provides up to £250,000 for projects lasting up to three years. Projects must demonstrate a direct patient benefit. RfPB is especially targeted at improving local healthcare and does not necessarily have to have a national impact in the short term.

i4i is designed to help bring new devises and technologies into general use in the NHS. Unlike most other funding stream it looks for commercial partners from the outset.

Clinical academic training for nurses, midwives and AHPs

Applications are invited for Round 2 of the NIHR / CNO Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship competition. The closing date for applications is 1pm on April 27th 2010.

The NIHR/CNO Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship is aimed at post-degree nurses, midwives and allied health professionals sited in England who have at least 1 year’s experience of clinical practice since graduating; have had sufficient research experience or research training to prepare them to undertake a PhD; and wish to obtain a PhD by research whilst still developing their clinical skills.
