Welcome to the June issue of the RDS South central update.

Since the last Bulletin we have elected a new Government and there has been much speculation regarding the changes (if any) that we can expect within NHS research.

The overall message that we’ve recieved is that its ‘business as ususal’ for the NIHR and that the RDS (and all NIHR units) are to continue to support the healthcare R&D strategy.

Funding streams
RfPB applications become simpler
From this competition round (deadline 24 September) there is no longer a requirement to submit a Registration of Intention (ROI).

Senior Investigators funding call

The NIHR has launched the latest annual competition for NIHR Senior Investigators. NIHR Senior Investigators include some of the country’s foremost researchers. NIHR Senior Investigators are fundamental to NIHR Faculty, making the most outstanding contribution to clinical and applied health and social care research.

Public Health Research – commissioned calls

NIHR Public Health Research (PHR) has announced three commissioned calls for applicaitons for funding.

i4i stream 1 sixth call The Invention for Innovation (i4i) Programme wishes to invite project proposals of up to 12 months to determine if prior basic research or an innovative use of an existing technology from a different industry sector can be used to meet an existing or emerging healthcare need.

PPI
Involve has recently updated and re-issued its guidance on paying members of the public for their involvement in research projects.
